We Made The Redbeacon Pro Spotlight!

by Handy Hero on 11/17/15

We are proud to be the focus of a Redbecon Pro Spotlight, which you can read here:

http://blog.redbeacon.com/pro-spotlight-hiro-and-shannon-kimoto/

In case you did know, Redbeacon.com is owned by the Home Depot.

Handy Hero has been one of the earliest approved pros of Redbeacon here in Georgia and have continued our relationship through all of their piloting and re-configuring through the years to the present.

So far, our company has had great success being a Redbeacon approved pro and if you are a small business owner, we recommend getting approved to become one.  You will find that it is a very consistent feeder of new customer requests matched to your business.

In our line of business, handyman and remodeling, we obviously purchase a ton of material from the Home Depot.  Doing so earns us points (I believe its 2 points per $) which in turn we can use to "pay" for the leads from Redbeacon.  In all honesty, we have so many points built up that we have yet to spend one dime for the leads fed to us daily from Redbeacon.

So if you are in a similar situation, we highly recommend signing up.

Cheers and here is to your prosperous future!

Believe It Or Not, It's Actually Easy To Remove Thermofoil To Give Your Kitchen A Fresh New Look!

by Handy Hero on 09/29/14

First, what is Thermofoil?

Thermofoil is basically a thin plastic material that has been heated and molded to an underlying form.  In our case we are speaking of cabinet doors and drawer faces.  Thermofoil is used by manufacturers to create reasonably priced cabinets as the plastic can be made with imitation wood grain or solid colors and is usually applied to a door made of engineered wood (which is far less expensive compared to a solid wood door).

While Thermofoil cabinets are more affordable, they have a downside in that after a few years of use the plastic covering can chip, peel and the color can fade or turn yellow.

                                         ~~~~~~~~~
On several occasions we have been asked by our clients if it were possible to remove the thermofoil covering on their kitchen cabinet doors.
The answer is, "Yes!".
Not only is thermofoil easy to remove, but doing so is a far more affordable option to buying and installing new cabinet doors and drawer faces to give your kitchen that new look.
Last summer we put together a short video demonstrating the thermofoil removal process.  Here is the link to that video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ueq3I7QiGfk
Once the thermofoil is removed, there remains a glue residue which needs to be lightly sanded.  Then the door is primed and painted, usually two coats, to give a beautiful fresh look to your kitchen cabinets.
So please do not get frustrated at your chipped or peeling thermofoil kitchen or bathroom cabinets.  They can be salvaged and made to look new!
Cheers.
Independence Day
by Handy Hero on 07/03/13
Handy Hero wishes everyone a very safe, fun and fulfilled Independence Day celebration.
One of our favorite quotes is:
"This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave." ~ Elmer Davis
As a short refresher, Independence Day, otherwise known as 4th of July, is a federal holiday in the United States to commemorate the official adoption of the Declaration of Independence, on 4 July, 1776.
This is the day that the United States, which at that time consisted of thirteen colonies, declared independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.
And this day is commonly celebrated by proudly hung flags, grand firework displays, gatherings of families, friends and neighbors, picnics, parties, fairs, concerts, sport activities (baseball, 5K/10K runs), swimming and anything else you can participate in during the summer weather.
Independence Day is a fantastic celebration and Handy Hero hopes that everyone has a wonderful 4th of July.
Deck Stairs Create Access to Backyard
by Handy Hero on 04/15/13
We were recently asked by one of our client to design and build a new stairway addition to his existing deck --- allowing he and his family direct access to their lower patio and backyard.
After onsite inspection, it was pretty obvious the builder of his home (and the others in his neighborhood) spared no expense to the concept of home owners having direct access to be able to enjoy their backyards --- but instead created what I call, a "Repunzel deck" wherein the homeowners are restricted to simply using their deck way up high but cannot come down to enjoy other parts of their property.
Needless to say, this was a very easy problem to solve.
Handy Hero designed and built a new set of stairs to allow our client and his family easy access to and from his lower patio (where the hot tub is located) and his back yard.
And, in a couple more weeks, after the new wood has fully cured, we will return to stain/seal his deck and stairs in the color of his choice -- just in time for Spring and Summer entertainment.
Our client has assured us that everyone in the family is pleased with the simple addition of deck stairs ... even their dog!
Remember that decks are easy to design and build.  They can create wonderful living areas at each level of the home.  And they are a fantastic solution to creating new living areas on properties that are too steep for a patio, etc.
Decks need to be kept clean and maintained and often need small yearly repairs. Handy Hero, Inc offers solutions to all your decking needs.    We design and build new decks, arbors and trellis.  We can repair rotted or split boards on decks.  We pressure wash clean and stain/seal decks to keep them looking fresh and new.
In my opinion, decks are simply wonderful and create additional living space at a very reasonable cost.
HANDY HERO AWARDED ANGIE'S LIST 2012 SUPER SERVICE AWARD!
by Handy Hero on 12/13/12
Well today, Handy Hero  received a very nice surprise.
We were awarded the 2012 Super Service Award from Angies List in the Handyman category.
We do not even pay to advertise in Angie's List.
http://www.angieslist.com/companylist/us/ga/cumming/handy-hero-inc-reviews-2345308.htm
I think what is particularly special about Angie's Lists, which is far different from all the other websites is that its members are the ones who pay to gain access to highly rated businesses.  And as such, a few of our clients were Angie's List members and reviewed our company there.  From there, other members found us (not on the first or second pages I guess as the paying advertisees are listed first) and called for our services.  And on from there.
So this is a nice award to receive at the end of a long, productive year.
We are a family run & owned business.  My husband, Hiro and I run the compay. My mother, Nanci, is the corporation Secretary.  Our sister-in-law, Judy, is a very talented and highly-in-demand interior painter.  Our two teanage nephews often jump in to work with our company on projects and came in particularly helpful with all the Christmas decoration projects we've had in recent weeks.  And in the past, when our other neices and nephews have come to town, they've jumped in too.
So while we are not perfect, and do not claim to be, we DO value and take pride in quality workmanship and good service.  We work hard to ensure our clients are satisfied and really aim to establish long lasting relationships with our clients.  In fact we still service quite a number of "original" clients from our first year in 2004!
Handy Hero is proud and honored to accept this award and will strive to continue our good service in this community.
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
All of us at Handy Hero, Inc.
